MISSION/HISTORY

Our Mission

To improve access to the court system and assure quality legal representation for clients regardless of income, ethnicity, or language by providing legal education and representation to low-income clients who are in transition out of poverty toward safety and self-sufficiency.

Our History

Since 1991, Centro Legal has served thousands of families and individuals from all over the Milwaukee area. Our emphasis over the years has been in family law, in particular, serving victims of domestic violence. We were among the first to introduce a sliding-scale fee system, encouraging clients to play an active role as they pursue justice. We are an independent entity located on the south side of Milwaukee and have built strong partnerships with other community organizations who share our goal of access and empowerment, including Sojourner Family Peace Center, UMOS’ Latina Resource Center and the Hmong American Women’s Association.
